Jnana guru Siva Yogaswami of Jaffna
Spiritual Master
Jnana Guru Siva Yogaswami of Jaffna (1872–1964) was one of the most revered spiritual masters of the 20th century, embodying profound wisdom and devotion. Known as a šivajnani and anatha siddhar, Yogaswami transcended religious boundaries, drawing followers from Hinduism, Catholicism, and Buddhism. As the 161st Jagadacharya of the Nandinatha Sampradaya’s Kailasa Parampara, his spiritual teachings emphasized self-realization, devotion, and inner stillness. Trained in Kundalini yoga under Satguru Chellappaswami, Yogaswami’s life of intense discipline and meditation inspired countless devotees and continues to illuminate spiritual seekers today.
Born near the Kandaswamy Temple in Jaffna, Yogaswami’s early life was marked by significant sacrifices, including a vow of celibacy and renunciation of worldly pursuits. His spiritual journey gained momentum after a life-changing encounter with Swami Vivekananda and later, his guru Chellappaswami, who guided him toward deeper meditation and self-discovery. Through his profound hymns, including the sacred Natchintanai, Yogaswami’s teachings resonate with universal values such as love, acceptance, and unity, making his legacy timeless and transformative.
